Ayurvedic body doshas- Imbalancing symptoms & effects on health.

Ayurveda is not merely an ancient system of healing but is complete knowledge of remaining healthy. It imparts wisdom to stay vital while realizing full human potential, providing guidelines on ideal daily and seasonal routines, diets, behaviour with proper use of senses. As per Ayurveda health is a balanced and dynamic integration between environment, body, mind and spirit.


The universe and the human body are made up of five elements. These five elements govern the three body doshas or energies.

Every individual has a particular pattern of doshas ( For know more about doshas, please read our posts – Know Ayurvedic body types….. & Know your body energies…..).

A balance between the doshas is called good health. And the imbalance of doshas is called ill health.

Effects of Imbalancing of doshas:-

Vata imbalance – Symptoms:-  




  • Constipation
  • Dry and rough skin
  • Dehydration
  • Gas formation or abdominal distension
  • Body pain
  • Loss of strength, fatigue, low vitality
  • Lack of sleep
  • Sensitiveness to cold and desire for warmth.
  • Feelings of loneliness.


  • Impatient, Irrational, Nervous, Agitated, Anxious.
  • Wanting to run away
  • Feeling fearful, confused and shaky
  • Excessive movement and talkative.

Vata imbalance – Effects:-

  • Wasting of muscles
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Joint pains
  • Weight loss
  • Convulsions, tremors, paralytic attacks
  • Cramps
  • Phobias

Pitta imbalance Symptoms:



  • Heartburn and acidity.
  • Excessive thirst and hunger
  • Strong body order
  • Burning sensation of eyes, hands and sole
  • Hot flushes in body
  • Skin rashes, acne boils
  • Hypersensitivity to light
  • Strong body order
  • Nausea and headache
  • Loose motions
  • Sensitiveness to heat and desire for a cool environment


  • Anger, irritability, hostility
  • Judgemental or criticising tendencies
  • Argumentive and aggressive attitude
  • Impatient and restless
  • Frustrated
  • Snappy speech and actions.


  • Hyperacidity
  • Inflammation
  • Bleeding
  • Hypertension
  • Burning sensation
  • Skin rashes, pimples boils

Kapha Imbalance symptoms:-



  • Lethargy
  • Water retention
  • Less appetite.
  • Congestion, mucus formation
  • Secretions in the mouth
  • Excessive sleep
  • Breathing difficulties


  • Feeling of heaviness
  • Dull inactiveness
  • Feel lack of support or love
  • Depression sadness

Kapha imbalance effects

  • Obesity
  • Depression
  • Water retention
  • Excess mucus formation
  • Swelling
  • Extra growth
